Fool Me Once- Kaylyn Book Review

As I read this book I felt a constant need to say, “fool me once, shame on me”. But aside from the title this book was so very good!!! A good combination of romance and urban. It was a true page turner!

The characters: Janero, Charli, Zaila, and Kobe

My absolute fave was Janero! Going from humble beginnings, having an unsteady childhood, to becoming a successful professional Boxer. Janero’s character really caught me by surprise; I just knew he would never fall in love or become the gentleman that he was. Janero’s only weakness was his mother- he gave her so many chances and she could not get her life right. I felt bad because it was clear that he yearned for a mother’s love. He had such a big heart and once he met and fell for Charli that was IT! Every time he called Charli, “Belle” I was totally squealing. It was just something about Charli that completely zoned him out. He did not play any games when it came to Charli. The one thing I didn’t Like was Ren, she took Janero for granted but he showed her that he wasn’t doing the back and forth with her. Charli had his heart!

Charli is a successful model and actress, she happens to save Janero from an accident. Charli wasn’t the typical A-list celebrity; she was super down to earth and had the cutest personality. The way that she loved Janero was so admirable; she didn’t care how popular he was, he would respect her. Period! Charli also had a tough upbringing, instead of her mother parenting her, she managed her career and was always, “business first”. It bothered me so much the way that Charli’s mother treated her and I felt not one bit of remorse when she fired her. Bye, girl!

Kobe is Janero’s bestfriend and Manager and Zaila is his sister. Honestly I didn’t expect this connection to happen nor did I anticipate either character to play such a major role in the book. I think Zaila and Kobe were a match in heaven. Zaila needed someone to let her live her life as an almost 30 year old and not as a young girl trying to be a mother figure. It sucked how much Zaila endured for over 14 years but Kobe was the man that she needed.

For some reason the mothers in this one wore me out, like my nerves were shot dealing with Rica and Tamron. Rica because she was hardly there for Janero as a child but she felt entitled. Tamron because she took being Charli’s manager too serious, she forgot to be a mother. Why is it so hard to love the child that you birthed without having a hand out?!

This book has everything that I would want in a book:

  • Good family drama
  • Unexpected connection between an actress and boxer
  • Romance
  • Pulls on heart strings
  • Bitter exes
  • Media scandal/mess

Kaylyn does such a great job telling a story, completely. At 479 pages, at the end I felt wholeheartedly that I received a complete story. I didn’t have any lingering questions or thoughts. There was a ton of information packed in the story but quite honestly it was all needed. Sometimes I read books and I’m like, “that’s too much” but no, not this one. I needed it all! Lol. The graphics and social media aspects of the book, again such a great touch to the book. We spend so much of our time on social media in celebrity’s Business so that was a cute but realistic touch to the book. I just adored everything about this book! Everything came full circle, the characters were able to reach all of their goals and get their HEA! 5 stars! ✨✨✨✨✨

This book is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
